Why Bering Yachts is one of the most captivating names in explorer yachting now

Today, there exists a particular type of owner whose primary concern is not where to go next, but rather: can my superyacht actually take me there? Not cruising from one marina to the next, going from one hotspot on the well-worn Mediterranean circuit to another, but travelling somewhere less tangible, like that remote anchorage they’ve heard about on the polar passage (a network of waterways most superyachts will never cruise through). And it was precisely this type of owner that Bering Yachts was established for. As put by its founder and

CEO Alexei Mikhailov, Bering builds yachts that can “function to be anywhere where the water is.” More than just a marketing tagline, this construction philosophy is firmly embedded into every design and every hull the shipyard has delivered since it opened in Antalya, Turkey, in 2007.

The clearest indication of where a shipyard currently stands in the market is not what it says about itself, but what it is actually building. And right now, Bering Yachts is building a great deal. With a total of 12 yachts currently under construction, spanning from compact sub-24-metre explorer yachts to the 49.6-metre flagship superyacht, the Turkish shipyard has enjoyed a series of rapid milestones over the past three months alone. Starting with the launch of the first Bering 78 this January, the launch of the second hull of the Bering 88 swiftly followed in March, whereas the first hull of the flagship superyacht Bering 165 was sold in January, with construction now officially underway. For a shipyard founded less than two decades ago, this amounts to an impressive orderbook and a clear signal of market confidence.

However, the most significant and news-worthy development at Bering in recent years is the establishment of its dedicated Superyacht division. Announced last November, the new division was created to facilitate the construction of superyachts larger than 30 metres. However, Mikhailov stresses that the shipyard’s decision to move into a larger size class has more to do than, well,  just size. “We’re not building bigger boats just for the sake of size,” he explains on the website. “We’re creating a new approach to superyacht design — one that rejects excess in favour of essentials for relaxation, long voyages, and genuine living aboard.” The philosophy of the smaller models, steel construction, full displacement hulls, long-range autonomy, semi-custom layouts, translates directly into the new division, just at a scale that the market has not previously seen from this yard.

Two models in the superyacht division tell the story well. The Bering 110, measuring 33.1 metres, was designed in collaboration with London-based Red Yacht Design and sold its first hull in October 2025, just weeks after the model was introduced to the market, and is a strong indicator of potential future demand. Then, at the other end of the range is the Bering 165, a 49.6 metres, 499 GT, a five-deck platform developed with Swiss studio Valentin Design. Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, giving her a top speed of 15 knots and a range of more than 5,000 nautical miles, she also features a dedicated owner’s deck of nearly 70 square metres that functions as a private haven while cruising. The first hull was sold in January this year and is now in build, with delivery scheduled for 2029. Mikhailov confirmed 2025

at the Monaco Yacht Show that the model was already in development for four separate clients,

A telling detail about the kind of owners Bering attracts, and the level of personal investment the shipyard brings to a new-build commission.

Understanding Bering’s range of explorer yachts and which one would be best suited for your needs largely depends on what you intend to do with it, a question that deserves a considered answer rather than a quick recommendation.
